It's rubbing off!!!!

I must say, couponing is rubbing off on my husband now!!!

HA HA HA

Yesterday I received a text, "Do you want to go eat at El Chico tonight?  I need to buy some jeans at JCPenney and they are on sale plus I have a coupon."

Haven't I trained him well???????

We did save a lot, and we did need new sheets,
and of course I'm always up for eating out.

Target Savings!

I have a wedding shower on Sunday, so I decided to do a cleaning/laundry basket for a gift.

My husband and I got this when we were married (almost 9 years ago ;) and we loved it.

These are things you need, and never get, but always have to pay for.  I decided to share my bargains with someone else this week.

(The picture won't rotate, so just turn your head)
Here is the breakdown:

Grocery Savings

By combining store ads with coupons this week, I saved a bundle!!!

This week I spent more than I wanted, but there were so many good deals, and actually things that I needed. I did not pay retail for anything.  Here is this week's breakdown:

What's Cookin???

Today, dinner was almost ready when I got home.
Here is what I started with:
1 Rump Roast (on sale this week)
1 bottle of Shurfine Italian Dressing
1 pkg. Idahoan Instant potatoes (free after coupon this week) (not pictured)

I always start with Slow Cooker liners.  They fit over the crock pot like a big plastic bag, and are safe for cooking up to 400 degrees. When you are finished, just toss your mess into the trash, and rinse out any residue in the crock pot.  These have been a lifesaver.  No more scrubbing.
Put roast in crock pot, salt & pepper
Pour 1/2 bottle Italian Dressing over roast.  The vinegar in the dressing helps to tenderize the meat.
Cover and cook all day.  Today I cooked it on Hi heat, I think I usually cook on Low heat.  Just experiment.
Here is the end result.  The meat will just fall apart!

We ate it on buns with a side of mashed potatoes.  You can eat it as you wish with or without a bun.  It's all good!!!!

This week's shopping at Bassham's

This week I shopped locally with coupons, for things I needed, and used my employee discount.

Dining Out!!

Wednesday night we went out to eat.  I had a coupon for Long Horn Steakhouse for $5.00 off our meal.  We had never eaten there before, but I highly recommend it if you want to splurge!!
Yes, it was a little on the pricey side, but it was worth it! Here is what we had: (the pics may be darker due to the lighting in the restaurant. No, our food was not burned!)
I had the New York Strip Steak well-done, with Steak House Mac & Cheese.  It was not burned or tough, and I didn't even need any steak sauce.  The Mac&Cheese was made with 5 cheeses and bacon bits.  Who wouldn't want that???
The Black Berry Tea is a must have! They even top it off with a fresh Black Berry.
My husband got the crab stuffed fillet (loaded with cheese, crab meat, and spinach) and a loaded baked potato.  I blurred the picture a little, it's hard to take pics with your Iphone in a restaurant inconspictuously.
We even got the sampler plate for dessert.  We ate it too fast, well, my husband did, (I was too full), to take any pics.  But I highly recommend the cheesecake.

This Week's Bargain Shopping

Well, I messed up again!!  Can you believe I left my Walgreen's Register Rewards at home?????
Every week it seems to be something, but I will say, I think I'm getting better at learning each week.  This week I bought the following:

What's for dinner????

Tonight we are having Shurfine Rising Crust Pizza, a new product in our store.  It is on sale this week for $4.19 regular priced at $5.99.
The crust rose up like a Pizza Hut Deep Dish Pizza.
A little too hot to eat, but it was still yummmmmy!! Not bad for store brand pizza.

(I'm partial to Shurfine though, I've never had anything that brand that I didn't like, and it saves us money too.)

Signs of Spring

Signs of Spring are starting to show at the Hopwood Home.  We recently planted a raised bed garden.
We planted cauliflower, broccoli, head lettuce, onions, mint, and strawberries from our local Farmer's CO-OP in Van Buren, AR.  To find a Farmers CO-OP near you click here. If you go to the VB store, tell Mike you saw it on Hopwood Home.

Strawberries and Mint grow in 5 gallon buckets.

Our head lettuce is coming up nicely.

Our first strawberry of the season.  Mmm. Mmmm.  It was good!!!

First Post Ever!!

I am brand new to blogging.  I don't know where to begin, or why I am even starting this (like I have time), but I love to read blogs and it seems like fun, so here I am.  This blog will be about anything and everything.  I work in a public school with special education students (never a dull moment there), and I help my mother run our family grocery store.  I love to travel and do so every chance I get.  I am learning how to shop for cheap if not for free.  I hope I will be able to pass along some helpful hints and not bore you to death so that you can get bargains, and possibly be entertained too.
